Chinese educators have realized the importance of reading for the country. Some educators recommended the establishment of national reading day in 2003 . They stressed that people should read books, especially the classical works. Through reading, people can learn to be grateful, to have the sense of responsibility and to work with others better, and the purpose of education is to cultivate these qualities. Reading is very important for primary and middle school students, if they do not foster interest in reading in this key period. It is very difficult to develop the habit of reading later.
In order to promote the equity in education, China has invested 36 billion yuan, to improve education facilities in rural areas and strengthen the rural compulsory education in the central and Western regions.
These funds were used to improve the teaching facilities and purchase of books.
More than 16 schools benefit from it.
Funding are also used to purchase music and painting courses.
Some students who transferred to the city school in order to receive a better education now returned to the local rural school.
